Senior Credit Analyst

What You’ll Do:

• Effectively assess and communicate the health of a given country’s portfolio, and make recommendations on credit strategy changes when necessary
• Identify, test, and implement credit strategy, including approval/decline decisions and loan limit, pricing, and duration offerings
• Contribute to the development of new products and features for various customer segments
• Partner with other functional members of the country team to drive positive customer and business outcomes

What You Need:

• Previous experience working with either lending or other financial services analytics
• Ability to set and manage own agenda based on business priorities and relative impact
• 2-4 years experience in analytical roles, with track record of success in FinTech, consumer lending, consumer banking or related industries
• Proven strong problem solving and analytical skills
• Proficiency in SQL and either Python or R
• Ability to pull, process, and interpret vast amounts of data in a self-sufficient manner
• Ability to use a combination of data, assumptions, and intuition to formulate recommendations
• Ability to navigate the product life cycle – taking an initiative from ideation to implementation
• Curiosity that will enable you to quickly digest the Tala loan product business model
• Comfort working and effectively communicating in a fast paced, dynamic environment with distributed teams.

Senior Revenue Analyst – KE

What you’ll do:

• Assist the Global Accounting Team with all aspects of Tala’s Revenue Recognition, preparation and diving into inquiries on data changes and analysis of monthly Revenue numbers against KPI’s.
• Collaborate with Data and Finance teams to build a sustainable revenue recognition tool with a goal to automate the process and standardize the output reports
• Maintain internal data files and reports in an organized manner that can be relied upon during internal and external audits.
• Provide Accounting teams the support needed during the month-end accounting tasks, Statutory and Regulatory Audits, Close and reporting cycles
• Confirming accuracy/appropriateness of source data files from the database.
• Review Global GL reconciliations pertaining to Tala’s Revenue lines
• Establish reasonable internal controls and maintain adequate and current documentation of Revenue recognition process.
• Build and maintain an adequate, efficient and effective process of  Revenue reporting to improve the close and reporting cycles in a timely and accurate manner.

What you’ll need:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Statistics,  or Related Field.
• 3-4 years experience in the Accounting and/or Finance sector with  relevant experience Financial analytics, Reconciliations
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good understanding of IFRS and US GAAP (added advantage)
• Strong proficiency in Excel required, Knowledge of and experience with reporting and data visualization packages (Lookr, Tableau), databases (SQL etc), programming (SQL, XML, )
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
• Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings
• Statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, R, etc.) a plus but not required
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence in a dynamic, cross-functional environment; customer-focused, with strong history of driving results, managing complexity and dealing with ambiguity
• Basic understanding of core accounting concepts (balance sheet, profit and loss account, impact of cash transactions on accounts receivable)

Preferred Requirements:

• CPA K or CPA candidate
• Preferably with experience in Netsuite or other accounting software.
• Experience working for a global company

Senior Backend Engineer, Markets (Kenya)

Responsibilities

• Design and implement features as defined in the Product roadmap
• Review design documents, perform code reviews, and weigh in on implementation choices from other technical teams
• Collaborate and support with cross functional teams (Product, Data, Credit, and Business Development) to ship scalable software solutions
• Continually improve our codebase with clean and efficient code as well as solving problems using the most appropriate technology
• Contribute to complete migration of legacy codebase to microservices architecture
• Contribute to the testing infrastructure to increase code coverage for backend modules
• Advance monitoring and alerting capabilities of backend modules to allow proactive improvements to availability and response times
• Technically lead and mentor a team of Backend Engineers to build/extend complex modules

Requirements

• 4+ years of backend software engineering experience
• 4+ years coding in one or more of the following languages: Java, Scala, Kotlin
• Developed and launched large scale consumer applications with the backend on Cloud infrastructure (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) using microservices architecture paradigm
• Expert knowledge in REST API design and development for mobile/web use
• Expert proficiency in Agile development process
• Excellent ability to prioritize and communicate in a fast-paced environment
• Strong relational database experience (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MS SQL)
• Strong non-relational database experience (Cassandra, Redshift, DynamoDB, HDFS)
• BS degree in Computer Science or related fields is a plus
• Demonstrated ability to interview candidates and evaluate technical skills

Senior Web Applications Developer – KE

What You’ll Do:

• Expert knowledge in building React based frontend applications
• Familiarity with one or more of the following languages: Java, Scala, Kotlin
• Expert knowledge in REST API design and development for mobile/web use
• Familiarity in building services as part of microservices architecture deployed in a cloud environment
• Experience working with both relational (MySQL) and non-relational (Cassandra, Redis) databases
• Experience working with a team distributed globally
• Ability to prioritize and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment

Software Development Engineer in Test – KE

What you’ll do:

• Develop and maintain test automation suites to expand test coverage to all our legacy services and microservices.
• Integrate it into regression and release process
• Deliver tools to help test integration with 3rd party services (loans, Payment Rails, SMS/Email, KYC (know your customer), Analytics, etc.)
• Integrate automated tests execution into the software development process
• Collaborate with product lead and other key stakeholders to strategize rollout and support for quality releases.
• Support and collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Data, Credit, and Business Development) in identifying automation areas to further increase the quality of our product
• Maintain, review, propose and implement improvements to existing frameworks, tools, and processes

What you’ll need:

• Minimum 6+ years of experience in building test tools and frameworks using Groovy/ Java/ Scala, Jenkins or similar CI-CD tools, Shell Scripting, Linux/ Mac OSX for either backend or frontend services
• Preferred Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science and/or Math or equivalent skills
• Experience with BDD testing paradigm and one of the Behavior Driven Testing frameworks such as Spock or JBehave or cucumber
• Strong Knowledge  in automation and  microservices architecture.
• Experience working in an Agile development process (Scrum/ Kanban/ Scrumban)
• Experience with one or more version control systems such as Github, Gitlab, Perforce
• Experience in FinTech is a plus
• Excellent ability to communicate and collaborate with a globally distributed team working in different timezones
